Spring has come irrevocably and has brought us sunshine, wind, and lovely floral fragrancies. So has arrived the time of light, fresh white wines; let’s start with one of the most popular wines of Etyek: Sauvignon Blanc 2019 – the wine of the month in May.
The aroma of the wine is very attractive: you feel fresh elderflower, lime, green apples, grapefruit, tangerine and the characteristic green herbs swirling in the glass. As you taste it, the sip explodes with the dominance of grapefruit and lime, supplemented with rosemary, having a markedly acidic flavour. The palate is surprisingly complex. This elegant taste of acidic character is due to the chalky soil as well as the right choice of harvesting.

Sauvignon originates from France, the Loire region, Sancerre and Pouilly-Fumé and has gained worldwide recognition. In Hungary planting was permitted in 1982. The terroir characteristics of Etyek are often compared to those of Champagne and Sancerre. Accordingly, the style of this region is determined by a majority of white wines with notable acidity. When in company, dare to pronounce the name in the proper way: “saw vee nyon blahnk”
The wine is 100% reductive, fermented in steel tanks, aged on fine lees for 8 months, which leads to a dry and crunchy character with an aftertaste of fresh herbs. It is a drinkable, light, but not the least superficial wine.
No doubt, the Sauvignon Blanc likes this climate – each year the winery produces a constant quantity of this beautifully crafted, recognizably Etyek wine.
Chilled well, this wine is recommended to accompany fish, salad, asparagus, but it pairs well with everything fresh and green. It is advisable to take two bottles, just to make sure you don’t run out of it….
